Make the right choice

Our various electro-magnets are extremely reliable, as they have no moving parts. They can be selected based on the following parameters:

A) Holding force

When they first appeared on the market, electro-magnetic locks were only available in 500 kilograms. This holding force is the most suitable for high security applications because it guarantees a reliable method of locking doors.

As time went by, the different sectors of the security business have requested new, less powerful magnets, compatible with lighter doors or to meet budget prices.

Today, the available range is as follows:

  • 1 800 Newton: Small magnet designed for light but reliable and secure locking. Particularly well adapted for locking glass doors, or medium internal doors of modern offices.
  • 3 000 Newton: Intermediate range of magnets meeting most of the middle range security needs. It is recommended for the majority of internal doors as they do not have to be resistant to heavy attacks.
  • 5 300 Newton: Basic electro-magnet, specially designed to combine a maximum holding force with low power consumption. This magnet is used for all high security access where efficiency and security cannot be comprised.
  • 6800 Newton:* the new generation of vortex magnet. The size of a 1800 N with a greater holding force of a 5300N!.
  • 7 500 Newton: The most efficient of the range. Specially designed for strong external uses like armored doors, heavy industrial doors, and external sliding gates…This magnet is totally waterproof and built in stainless steel AISI 316 type.
  • The Shearlock: This is a hybrid magnet mixing a classical electromagnet and an electric lock. The shearlock is the only solution for fitting a flush magnet on a swinging door.
  • The accessories: Our mounting brackets are made from extruded anodized aluminium. They adapt the magnets for all kind of doors.

B) Surface or flush installation:

Surface mounting is easiest, as it does not require a cutout on the door or the frame. This type of mounting is described in “Installation”, Technical Information (ex: EM 2 H)

The flush fitting is more aesthetic and adapted to new doors. Nevertheless, it can be used for existing doors, however we recommend calling in a specialist for this operation (ex : EM 2)

C) Monitoring of status and locking the door :

Electromagnetic locks are chiefly used in the field of electronic access control systems. It is very important to know the status of the entrance: locked or unlocked.

Even though a door contact, magnetic or electromagnetic, only gives an indication of the door status: open or closed, the magnet provides confirmation that it is correctly locked.
